Sous Chef Sean Kilcrease’s calm and positive demeanor contagious

While not all the residents in Independent Living have had the opportunity to meet Sean Kilcrease or taste his cooking, the residents in Somerfield Health Center seem to appreciate the dishes his team offer.

After seeking out a place to utilize his culinary skill set within a senior living community, Sean found The Heritage at Brentwood where he has served as sous chef in Somerfield for over two years. His previous culinary experiences were high-end restaurants and hotels, but he feels he found what he was looking for at The Heritage.

Sean enjoys talking with the residents one on one to discuss their likes and dislikes for food. He tries to be thoughtful when planning for their dietary and nutritional needs, which he does in collaboration with Molly McDevitt, Somerfield’s dietician. He understands that residents might enjoy a Southern green bean over a steamed green bean, but he also knows one offers more nutritional value than the other.

For all these reasons and more, Sean is The Heritage’s March Employee of the Month.

Sean was born and raised in South Nashville and graduated from McGavock High School. He completed some culinary arts/chef training at Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte, NC before finding a great chef mentor who provided him with hands-on experience and training.

Sean considers himself a homebody who enjoys yard work and visiting nurseries as a hobby along with regular trips to the gym. He has been married for over 31 years, has a 27-year-old daughter, a 20-year-old son and a 4-year-old grandson.

“Sean has demonstrated excellent leadership, reliability, and quality as a culinary team member especially during many extraordinary weather situations we’ve faced,” stated Molly McDevitt. “Sean has been positive and rolled with the punches with the ever-changing scenarios we’ve been faced with.”

She concluded by noting that his positive and calm demeanor have been contagious for Somerfield’s food and beverage team members.

Chef Jonathan King, manager of Culinary Operations, noted his own experience watching Sean’s deep desire to provide Somerfield residents with the best meal possible and to address any culinary concerns, including likes and dislikes. Both Molly and Chef appreciate Sean’s leadership and his dedication to food, to his team and to the residents.
