Stephen Williams, Residency Counselor extraordinaire, named May Employee of the Month

Not many Tennesseans can say they have lived in all three divisions of the state – West, Middle and East – but Stephen Williams can.

The Heritage at Brentwood Residency Counselor and May’s Employee of the Month grew up in Dyersburg (West Tennessee), graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (East Tennessee) and has resided in Franklin (Middle Tennessee) for over 21 years.

Stephen and his wife Melissa, a math teacher at Franklin High School, have two children, daughter Eliza, 16, and son Davis, 13. Stephen and Melissa spend a lot of their time watching Eliza and Stephen participate on their respective school and youth sports teams.

The proud UT Vols alum is an avid college football fan who also enjoys traveling, playing and, in recent years, gardening. While most experienced in ornamental gardening, he is excited about having his first raised garden of herbs and vegetables this year.

Stephen loves working with potential residents and their families as they are exploring the option of moving to a retirement community, which is no surprise as he loves meeting new people and learning about their life stories and experiences. Stephen calls it a privilege to be able to go on the journey with them.

When asked about the most challenging part of his job over the past year with COVID-19 restrictions, Stephen noted that he truly missed being able to connect with potential residents and their families on a personal level instead of having to rely so heavily on technology. He prefers face-to-face interactions with new people to help build and grow lasting relationships. Despite these obstacles, Stephen was able to secure sales during COVID-19 and contribute to the overall success of The Heritage due to his positive attitude.

Stephen is recognized as an employee who ensures he is fulfilling The Heritage’s Extraordinary Impressions Promises on a daily basis.

“During the past year, Stephen has frequently assisted other departments, most notably Dining and Community Life Services,” Robert Hagan, Director of Financial Services, commented. “He goes beyond his job description.”

“Stephen is an amazing Residency Counselor,” Marketing and Sales Director Judy Good said. “His talent to articulate with care to people considering a move to The Heritage is commendable and a true gift to the community as well as those with whom he connects.

“The Heritage at Brentwood is a better place with Stephen on its team.”
